Teaching Their Name

A dog does not take long to learn its name as long as treats are involved, make sure you give it a name that will not confuse it and do not use nicknames, if you want to give it a name that is similar to another person living in the same household then be sure it is pronounced differently, never change its name.

Teaching a dog its name is very important, it prevents accidents from happening by calling out their name before getting into any incidents because they will respond no matter what.

Have a lot of patience with your dog, just like a baby, they take a little of your time to get use to their new lifestyle or their new life as a newborn, no matter how long it takes, do not scold them when they finally do get it.

Never use your dog’s name for something negative because that will cause them to be afraid of their name or not respond, try to avoid ‘no’ and ‘stay’ with the dog’s name.

Take your dog somewhere spacious, like a park, and keep it on a leash about 5 feet away, when your dog looks at you, say its name and give it a treat, repeat about 4 times, then say its name while your dog is looking at you, repeat 8 times, call your dog again, and if it looks at you then mission accomplished!

Don’t forget that treats are a dogs second best friend and treat them nicely.
